Choose the IV Therapy Course That Fits Your Role and Scope

IV Therapy for Today offers instructor-led IV therapy training and hands-on skills validation for healthcare professionals, eligible support staff, and healthcare teams. Our courses are designed to help participants strengthen clinical knowledge, improve hands-on technique, and complete competency-based skill check-offs in a supportive learning environment.

Courses are aligned with infusion therapy and vascular access standards of practice, Infusion Nurses Society core curriculum concepts, and applicable Texas scope-of-practice considerations. These courses do not award CE or CEU hours. Participants who successfully complete all required components receive a Certificate of Completion documenting completion of knowledge instruction, hands-on skills practice, and competency skill check-off.

Important Scope of Practice Notice

Completion of an IV Therapy for Today course does not independently authorize a participant to perform IV therapy outside their legal scope of practice, employer policy, facility procedures, or required supervision/delegation structure. Texas scope-of-practice rules vary by license type, setting, and task. The Texas BON Position Statement 15.3 specifically addresses LVNs engaging in IV therapy, venipuncture, or PICC lines and notes the need for post-licensure training for LVN IV therapy/venipuncture.

Texas also has special rules for elective IV therapy in non-traditional settings. Under Texas Occupations Code Chapter 172, physicians may delegate prescribing/ordering elective IV therapy to a PA or APRN under adequate physician supervision, and may delegate administration to a PA, APRN, or RN under adequate physician supervision.

IV Therapy for Today – Advanced

Best for licensed clinicians with prior IV experience who need advanced vascular access training.

This advanced course is designed for RNs, LVNs, Physician Assistants, and eligible healthcare professionals who already have foundational IV therapy knowledge and want to strengthen advanced IV-related skills. The course is appropriate for participants working in settings where advanced line care, central access maintenance, infusion safety, and advanced documentation are part of their role and permitted by license, employer policy, and supervision structure.

Participants review advanced vascular access principles, PICC/midline/central line dressing changes, infection prevention, TPN administration, blood draws from advanced vascular access lines, blood and blood product administration for RNs only, complication prevention, patient monitoring, documentation, and escalation procedures.

This course may be right for you if:
You already understand basic IV therapy and need advanced skills training related to central line care, TPN, blood administration, or advanced vascular access maintenance.

Skills and competencies covered:
PICC, midline, and central line dressing changes; TPN administration; blood draws from advanced lines; blood and blood product administration for RNs only; infection prevention; aseptic technique; complication recognition; documentation; and competency validation.

Important limitation:
Advanced skills must be performed only when allowed by the participant’s license, training, employer policy, facility procedure, and required supervision. LVN scope has specific limitations related to PICC/midline insertion and removal, and must be reviewed against current Texas BON guidance and employer policy.

Completion:
Participants who successfully complete the course receive a Certificate of Completion verifying completion of advanced knowledge instruction, hands-on skills practice, and competency skill check-off.
