The IV Therapy for Today: Basic Skills Lab / Competency Validation session is designed to provide licensed healthcare professionals with hands-on IV skills practice and instructor-observed competency validation for basic peripheral IV therapy.
This option is ideal for participants who have already completed IV therapy didactic instruction or who need a separate hands-on skills check-off for refresher, employer, or clinical readiness purposes.
During the session, participants will practice and/or demonstrate essential basic IV therapy skills, including peripheral IV insertion, vein selection, site preparation, aseptic technique, IV site assessment, IV maintenance concepts, complication recognition, and IV discontinuation/removal.
Important: This option includes the in-person skills lab and competency validation only. It does not include online Relias modules, didactic course access, AAMA/ANCC certificates, or continuing education certificates.
Participants who successfully demonstrate safe performance may receive skills check-off documentation or a certificate of completion, based on instructor observation.

Scope of Practice Notice
Completion of the IV Therapy for Today: Basic Skills Lab / Competency Validation session does not expand a participant’s legal scope of practice or independently authorize the participant to perform IV therapy in a clinical setting.
Participants are responsible for practicing only within their license, certification, training, employer policy, facility protocol, provider orders, supervision requirements, and applicable Texas laws and regulations.
Successful completion indicates that the participant demonstrated selected basic IV therapy skills in a simulated instructional setting under instructor observation. It does not replace employer competency requirements, facility-specific validation, or required clinical supervision.
All IV-related tasks must be performed only when permitted by the participant’s role, scope of practice, employer policy, and supervision structure.

The IV Therapy for Today – Basic + Advanced Skills Lab / Competency Validation session is designed for licensed healthcare professionals who have completed didactic IV therapy instruction and need hands-on practice, instructor observation, and competency validation for selected basic and advanced IV therapy skills.
During this in-person skills lab, participants will practice and/or demonstrate essential peripheral IV and advanced vascular access skills using simulation supplies and instructor-guided competency checklists. Skills may include peripheral IV insertion technique, vein selection, aseptic technique, IV site assessment, IV maintenance, IV discontinuation/removal, central line dressing change, PICC/midline/central line care concepts, implanted port care concepts, blood draw from advanced vascular access lines, and complication recognition.
This session is ideal for participants who have already completed the online didactic Relias modules or who need a separate hands-on competency check-off for employer, refresher, or clinical readiness purposes.

Advanced IV therapy skills may be limited by license type, employer policy, provider order, and facility requirements. Blood and blood product administration is RN-only when applicable. Completion of this skills lab does not independently authorize a participant to perform IV therapy or advanced vascular access procedures outside of their legal scope or employer-approved role.
